G20 Art Exhibit at the 15 Minutes Gallery: Innovation Lives Here

INNOVATION LIVES HERE:
The New Generation of Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Technology Council's Special G20 Exhibition
September 21, 2009 - January 21, 2010

In celebration of this year’s G-20 Summit, the 15 Minutes Gallery is proud to present a collection of artwork that reflects the diversity, creativity, excellence and innovative spirit of Pittsburgh today. Twenty artists represent work in virtually all media – from the traditional to the leading edge. Fabric art and oil paintings, microscopic photography and gigapan technology, sculpture, collage, glass, assemblage and robotic installations – all of these media combine synergistically to form a vast and diverse collection of some of the region’s best artwork. President Obama chose us for many of the same reasons that the Art + Technology Initiative is in existence; today in Pittsburgh, we are demonstrating our ability to adapt, and even flourish – and are embracing our potential to reinvent ourselves, both culturally and economically.

Location:
Pittsburgh Technology Council
2000 Technology Drive
Pittsburgh, PA 15219

A Fair In The Park September 11, 12, 13 2009 Mellon

The Power Flower will be featured at A Fair In The Park September 11-13 2009

@ Mellon Park (right next to Pittsburgh Center for the Arts on Fifth Ave in Shadyside)

Friday: 1 PM - 7 PM
Saturday: 10 AM - 7 PM
Sunday: 10 AM - 5 PM

The Power Flower is a twelve-foot wind driven kinetic sculpture in the form of a potted sunflower. Sun and wind energy are collected with a wind turbine driven by spinning flower petals and photovoltaic solar film leaf surfaces. The flower provides power for public use. The sculpture also powers colored LED lighting for dynamic night illumination. A weatherproof controller maintains safe power levels and timed programmable lighting. This is housed within ample signage for graphics and mission statements. The sculpture is transportable and sets up easily for events and exhibitions.

David Edwards, founder of Art Energy Design explains, "The attention grabbing nature of large kinetic artworks is a great way to open a conversation about energy generation within the urban landscape."

Track the whereabouts of the Power Flower here.

If you've never been to the Unblurred Gallery Crawl along Penn Ave in Garfield (Bloomfield and East Liberty as well) you're missing out on a major part of the Pittsburgh art scene. It happens the first Friday of every month (except January) and most venues open up at 7pm.

Don't know where to start? Pick any gallery or venue from the list below and pick up a program which has a map. But really all you have to do is just walk down Penn Ave in Garfield and see all the people coming in and out of venues. Each venue has refreshments and snacks and a lot of art to check out and buy. Remember that Unblurred continues to exist because those who are passionate about art buy what strikes them.

Whatever the month is you can check this link for a schedule:

Sprout Hothouse 2010 Info here.

The Sprout Fund’s 7th annual Hothouse summer benefit will be held on Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at Walnut Capital’s new Bakery Square development on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh's East End.

A record crowd of more than 2,400 made last year’s event the party of the summer and #2 in the "10 Best Parties of 2008," according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Check back throughout the summer for updates on Hothouse. Ticket sales and volunteer signups will begin in July.

ABOUT HOTHOUSE

Hothouse is The Sprout Fund’s annual benefit and showcase event. The event serves as a stage to present a sampling of some of the innovative projects and emerging leaders of successful community initiatives supported by Sprout over the past year. Held annually at unique development sites, the event celebrates the organization’s accomplishments and features live music and performances, food and drink by Pittsburgh favorites, a silent auction, and a VIP reception.

As The Sprout Fund’s “live annual report” to the community, the event creates an incredible opportunity for the wide cross-section of Pittsburgh’s business and social circles that come together each year in support of Sprout’s mission to meet and mingle.

Support for the event has been strong every year; last year 36 financial sponsors, 4 media sponsors, 24 in-kind supporters, 32 food & drink sponsors, and 57 silent auction donors joined hundreds of friends of the organization to raise more than $130,000 for The Sprout Fund.
