When illustrator Camilla Engman was vacationing in France earlier this month, she took these photos of a town preparing for a party. Aren't they beautiful? I would be quite happy if cities in America did something like this.

I am continuously in awe of everything that Anna Bond designs, but these Heirloom Recipe Card Boxes might just be my favorite creation yet. Each box is handcrafted from trees that were destined for landfills through a 3-month process, then screen-printed with two different design options. For a baker like myself, this would be one of the best gifts I could think of. ($120, available for pre-order)

MNY Giveaway: Beautiful, imaginative, daring

Some time ago a package was sent my way including some products of the fairly new young line by Maybelline called MNY. This line makes every girls heart beat faster who likes to experiment with lots of colors for a low price. In fact there are 143 products in seven color palettes, all for under 4 Swiss francs (3 euros). Let’s have a closer look at the nail polishes, blushes, kajals, eyeshadows, lip balms and glosses…

You all know by now my thing for colorful nails. MNY has 39 polishes to choose from, some of them with or without glitter. I prefer polishes without glitter so from the ones I tried so far the bright yellow (No.749, in the picture above) has to be my favorite. It’s perfect for bronzed skin in summer!

Artist Anna Rebek invites you to explore the dangerous fury of color and the exotic. In her latest exhibit, Poisonous, Rebek unleashes a collection of bold, expressive work that investigates the natural purpose of the earth’s most colorful creatures.

According to Anna Rebek, all of species depicted in Poisonous have been painstakingly pigmented – everything from the eight-legged stripes, slick stingers, diamond scales and silky, florescent skin. While the primary purpose of camouflage is to ward off predators and entice and confuse prey, Anna Rebek explores intricate, complex patterning to reveal an optical clash and extravagant scenery that celebrates the luxury of color in nature. Poisonous gives viewers a unique perspective of visually stunning phenomena found only in nature.


About Anna Rebek:

Born in 1982 and raised in Pittsburgh, Anna Rebek’s passion for the arts emerged at an early age and evolved throughout her teens. Anna Rebek attended Yale University where she shaped her artistic voice. While at Yale, she was invited by Robert Reed to study painting at the prestigious Pont Aven School of Arts in France. After graduating with a degree in Theater, Rebek relocated to La Jolla, CA, to further her artistic explorations.

Anna Rebek has been represented in the collections at Sirani Gallery, Pittsburgh and Marcia Rosenthal Gallery, Pittsburgh. In La Jolla, her portraiture is on permanent display at the Scripps Research Institute. Anna Rebek extends this dedication to her stage work as a member of an international tour of Terrence McNally’s controversial Corpus Christi cast. She has developed video installations and stop-motion shorts and will be directing her first feature in 2011. She is currently working on pre-production for the film and her second collection of “Dreamscapes.”

Waiting for another summer's day

I started really late with my sales shopping this season but went a little bit crazy the last two days. A parka was on my wishlist for a long time, so I consider this one as a good purchase. To be honest I'm enjoying dressing a little autumnal but only because I tell myself that summer will be fully back with it's 30 degrees. I'm not done yet with swimming in the Limmat river and having BBQ's outside...
