Clyde Hare: A Memorial Exhibition at Concept Art Gallery Pittsburgh PA

Clyde Hare: A Memorial Exhibition

Please join us NEXT SATURDAY, June 12th, for the opening of our Clyde Hare Memorial Exhibition. The afternoon begins at 4pm with a lecture about Hare's work by Linda Benedict-Jones, Curator of Photography, Carnegie Museum of Art. A reception will follow from 5-7pm.

Clyde Hare is best known for his work on the Pittsburgh Photographic Library (
PPL) project. Hare worked with Russell Lee and Esther Bubley, among others, on the project, which documented the "Renaissance of Pittsburgh”--the transformation from a smoky steel producing city to a clean, 20th century metropolis.

The exhibition includes photographs from his PPL project work, assignments for national magazines such as Life, Fortune, and National Geographic, as well as photographs that were included in his 1958 solo exhibition at the Carnegie Institute. Additionally the exhibition features many rare vintage prints not exhibited previously.

...The Pittsburgh Art Blog

pittsburgh galleries is reborn anew as The Pittsburgh Art Blog. the blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Started on August 20, 2007.pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh art advocate rick byerly, www.RickByerly.com.
